Cannabidiol (CBD) FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

What is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol, the second most famous compound found in the cannabis plant. Our products contain a full spectrum (“entourage”) of cannabinoids found in the hemp plant, including cannabidiol (CBD). Because CBD constitutes 88-98% of the cannabinoids in our products and is a well known and short-winded term, we also regularly use the term “CBD” as a shorthand way to refer to not just cannabidiol but the full spectrum/entourage of hemp cannabinoids in our marketing and educational discussions.

What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?

Short (also American) answer: hemp produces a lot of CBD and very little THC. Marijuana produces a tiny to moderate amount of CBD, and a lot of THC. Read this journal post to learn more.

Is this stuff legal?

In the United States, Congress has reiterated that hemp extracts containing less than 0.3% THC by weight are legal. This has been made clear as recently as June 13, 2018.

What does CBD do?

The FDA forbids companies like New South Botanicals to make direct (“from the manufacturer”) claims about what CBD does, and probably for good reason, as the list of scientific study suggested benefits for CBD (and cannabinoids in general) is so long as to be called outrageous. But what we can and must say is that in practice most of our customers so far claim they use our (or other) CBD products because they believe it to have helped them with one or several of the following:

  • To relax
  • To help sleep without feeling groggy in the morning
  • As a general purpose supplement allowing them to enjoy the (US federal government claimed) benefits of a sizeable quantity of cannabinoids without the detrimental side effects of THC.
  • For certain types of pain, especially those induced by inflammation like arthritis or fibromyalgia
  • As a healthy substitute for former (unhealthy) solutions geared towards treating restlessness, stress or inflammatory-origin pain.

Do your products contain any THC?

Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is naturally produced to some degree by all variations of Cannabissativa, including hemp. While in general it is true that the more the cannabis plant produces CBD, the less THC it produces is true, there is always a bit of THC is CBD-dominant cannabis cultivars and vice versa. All of our products use natural hemp extract, and therefore contain a small amount of THC in addition to a full spectrum (entourage) of cannabinoids and terpenes found. We utilize rigorous lab testing procedures to insure that THC levels do not exceed 0.2% by weight. The federal maximum for THC content is 0.3%.

Will ultra-low THC hemp extract products get me high?

No, they will not. To illustrate the point, you could use our products before a public speaking engagement or an important business meeting, for example, and have no adverse effects.

Where are your hemp flower extracts sourced from?

All of the hemp oil used in our products comes from hemp grown and extracted in South Carolina, which we test using an extremely reputable, licensed third party laboratory ( for cannabinoids, terpenes, pesticides, residual solvents, heavy metals and microbials such as Salmonella and E Coli. Our products are developed, designed, manufactured and packaged in Horry County, South Carolina.

Will your products cause me to fail a drug test?

It all depends on which test is used. Some cannabis drug tests will test “positive” even based off CBD oil products with no THC whatsoever (i.e. CBD isolate based). Most cannabis drug tests are exclusively done for THC however, and due to the small percentage of THC in our products, you might fail a common THC drug test. Speak with your employer before using our products if you are being drug tested for cannabis.

The last piece of information we can offer on this topic is that due to the significantly lower volume of THC in our vaporizer formula, you would theoretically be less likely to fail a drug test after using our vape products. We have done some tests, and this has been the case. It was only after significant dosing of tinctures that the THC screening test came back positive. New South Botanicals makes NO CLAIMS however that you will test negative for THC after using our products!
